Weekend Art Show Recap

here are a few of the things i checked out…

Crest Fest 2012- Equally abundant in beards and beers, Crest Fest continues to be a beacon for art, hardware, gardening and community. Several sound spaces, tons of food from local vendors, local artisans and an easter-egg-hunt of an art show make this an event to hit every year.

Fresthetic’s Makossa Cookout- Summertime, love, and bbq fills the sky at the backyard of the Brooklyn Tap House, mingling with the incredible sounds of DJ Wonway Posibul and friends. Mikey Cordero greets everyone as they come in with a warm and humble smile, thanking us for the support, chatting about creative projects making headway in the carribean. Its a true honor to be among the kind creatives here.

Ladies First- Personally curated by artists James Tops and Nova at Azucarera Gallery, and featuring an international blend of female urban artists, this show was an incredible premiere for the space. While the show is scheduled to run til september, many of the artists, like Shiro and Scratch were present, gladly talking to fans and fellow painters, autographing sketchbooks and comparing markers. The stand out piece for me was 2 tapestries that shiro made, in the traditional japanese style and blend of fabrics but with contemporary paint-marker portraits of the characters she’s become known for.

Brooklyn Bridge Secret Midnight Party- A magical mixture of star children and tourists, this sophomore event has earned its stripes. Powered by the peoples mic and the accoustic stylings of the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Brooklyn, BrainSpace and Deathrow Tull, this event blew us away. The staggering number of attendees was enough to fill the final destination, superfine, to capacity and beyond.

illwindmysteria:

despite what was said in my last post, this is what i did tonight. tonights inspiration was German beer & platinum kush. vocals not perfect. idea is there. intro is not ideal. spent a couple hours tracking then a couple doing eq/automation/mixing.

hoping to get a couple of the Old Californio boys singing on the chorus. can’t wait for drums and everything else.

first inspired by Old Californio, then Neutral Milk Hotel, then Bon Iver, then Fleetwood Mac. preproduction nearly finished.

love love love it. she’s incredibly talented. i visit her in every city i can and you should do the same.

Great day, good music, lots of love

Saturday recap-

Started the day heading to 5 pointz, the graffiti and hiphop mecca of the east coast. It seems that the good folks of 5 pointz are gonna be bringing us creative goodness all summer long, the next few weekends bringing the artists process, a stencil show and a break battle, respectively. During an intermission, we popped over to williamsburg to take a walk down temporarily sodded and grassed bedford checking out giant art boxes on the way to mccarren park. Art by zimmer and ian mcgillivray graced the last 2 panels, a strange juxtoposition of graffiti influence and pop art. Then back to 5 pointz to catch the last bit of deathrow tulls set, which included a fantastic cypher set to a modded version of tcq’s can i kick it. And finally we made it to no mans land’s balkans de janeiro gypsy festival, where we gorged ourselves on bushwick brews and homemade burgers. Wonderful night! Hope you enjoyed yours!
