Great art shows last night…
Happy saturday guys!! Here’s a quick recap of last night:
Mighty Tanaka Presents: Flying Fortress One Man Army
I went to check out Flying Fortress’s One Man Army show at the Mighty Tanaka Gallery last night, hands down one of my favorite new galleries. Its a small space, but they always fill it with great work and you get to chat with the artists (usually because theres no where to hide, lol). The show was DOPE. Fortress has been doing lots of work with MSK and TSL artists, huge pieces in detroit and developing his own merchandise, but his show featured the Teddy Troops, which we’ve all grown incredibly fond of, taking on new and old shapes and color schemes.
ALSO! and perhaps my favorite part, Fortress is in the midst of an ode to Bode, a late 70’s early 80’s artist who developed beautifully stylized characters. Fortress’s Bode pieces are incredible, exquisitely detailed and perfectly colored.
The X Collective - Meet and Greet
This art collective, a hodgepodge of active and collaborative artists based in the Mount Eden section of the Bronx, had an impressive array of works. Covering all the bases from photography, collage and printmaking to body painting and performance art, this family-like crew of hispanic artists are extremely talented and very progressive, taking on serious themes when approaching their work. i had the distinct pleasure of getting to shake hands with all of them. I’m really excited to see what the future will bring for this collective.

See you all Next time! I’ll be doing this for as many art shows as i can in the future and these posts will eventually become a column in MERCURY SOAPBOX MAGAZINE.
